Indeed, in the last few months they have been faced with more hardships than wins. First Prince Harry is caught in a trial against the British tabloids which is not exactly going his way. Then, the couple’s deal with Spotify was dropped losing them millions of dollars and finally their Netflix deal has also been rumoured to be in jeopardy.
On a personal note, rumours of a divorce have been unending since mid July 2023. Now, amid all of this, another rumour has emerged and it’s the most surprising. The couple could be discussing the possibility of returning to the UK.
GBNews have brought these rumours to the forefront but it is unclear where they got it from. Here's what they say:
Prince Harry is reported to have recently reached out to his brother Prince William in order to discuss the possibility of the Sussexes returning to the UK.
Let’s see how they could make it happen.
Prince Harry and Meghan have no place to live
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were still working members of the Royal Family, the couple lived in Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. The ‘ten bedroom’ house was their residence until they moved to Canada in 2020 and they would use the cottage for their visits in the UK.
However, at the end of June 2023, the couple was announced to no longer have a home in the UK as King Charles had given Frogmore Cottage to his brother Prince Andrew. The Sussexes currently live in Montecito, California. They bought the mansion for a staggering $14,65 million in 2020.
If they were to move back to the UK, the two would probably have to sell the Montecito mansion which would easily allow them to purchase a new home in the UK.
Prince William could put the Sussexes on payroll on one condition
According to new rumours and to controversial news outlet GBNews, there is a possibility that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be returning to the UK following the financial losses that they have encountered in the last few months.
If they do so, it is alleged that they could get back on payroll meaning that Prince William himself would have to give them some money.
However, being back in the UK and being on payroll would require Meghan and Prince Harry to return as working members of the Royal Family and by being so they could be funded by the Duchy of Cornwall.
Those rumours are leaving both royal watchers and regular people online confused and bewildered. GBNews mentions royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams who said:
There may not be a problem in funding them as they need young blood as there are few working royals under 70.
However, the idea that after everything that has happened that Meghan and Harry could just walk back in is beyond extraordinary
Indeed, the relationship between the two brothers has been rocky for a few years now.
What would happen to Archie and Lilibet?
The future of the two small children of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could also now hang in the balance if the couple decides to move back to the UK.
As pointed out by several tabloids, Prince William is alleged to be more than reluctant to fund his little brother’s return. However, with no help from the Royal Family, Meghan and Prince Harry might not be able to provide the level of security they’ve been able to live with in California.
Moreover, the children would need to receive education which would be expected to be paid by the Duchy of Cornwall. According to Prince Harry’s memoir, King Charles can’t handle financially supporting his children.
He also added:
Pa didn’t financially support Willy and me, and our families, out of any largesse. That was his job. That was the whole deal.
Royal watchers online have been polarised by the idea that Prince Harry could be funded by his brother and the little children involved have become a point of argument.
Comments under GBNews’ article say:
Personally I think Diana would want him to help her grandchildren. It’s through no fault of theirs all this predicament
Blood is thicker than water. I’m sure Charles and William would help Harry and his children
Other commenters are less inclined to see William help the Sussexes:
Why??? Why would Prince William have to fund those 2 horrible people & their children????? That’s absurd
Needless to say, Prince Harry and Meghan have not commented on the rumours about their possible move to the UK.
