As Royal Museums Greenwich explain:
The Earth is tilted on its axis. This means that the Sun illuminates the northern or southern hemisphere more depending on where the Earth is along its orbit.
However, at two points in the year the Sun will illuminate the northern and southern hemispheres equally.
This perfect balance will bring us the Autumn equinox at 6:50AM on Saturday, and this is how it could affect you.
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Aries enjoy extremes, so the balance and tranquility of the equinox may not really appeal to them. However, we are almost into Libra season, which focuses on finding your equilibrium. Libra is opposite Aries on the zodiac wheel, so this may not come easy. You should try to include a calm day for every active day - even if you don’t feel like it!
Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Taurus chimes with everything the equinox represents: peace, balance and stability. However, you should be careful not to lean too far into comfort. Now is a good time to take on new challenges and push yourself while you enjoy a solid state of mind.
Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Geminis have just enjoyed the summer season of parties and spreading their social butterfly wings. Autumn may seem like a depressing inevitability, but you should try to reconnect with your inner child and see all the best bits about Autumn!
Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
This sign is a lunar sign; the sun has less of an effect on you. However, Cancers are likely to feel the impact of the Harvest moon on the 29th. Instead of balance, this will bring a time of ending and gathering resources. Cancers will be able to find comfort during this period by spending time with loved ones.
Leo (July 23 - Aug. 22)
Leo is a solar sign, so the equinox will have a big effect on you. You may miss the sunny days of summer, but you will quickly embrace the coziness of Autumn. You should be ready to feel a boost during this season as the shift on energy will fuel your curiosity and passions.
Virgo (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22)
The equinox marks the end of Virgo season, which is all about getting things in order. So, once this period of balance is upon us, Virgos can really enjoy it after having put in the hard work required for peace.
Libra (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22)
This is your season! Get ready to feel very much at home as the leaves start to fall. Get your slippers out and enjoy cozy moments as you sip a hot cup of something while you watch your favourite series.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21)
Scorpios enjoy a little secrecy and mystery. You’ll enjoy slipping into the darker months of the year towards the comfort of winter. It will feel refreshing, and you can expect to be on good form.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21)
Sagittarians love to travel, and summer is the perfect time for that. But now, you should avoid that temptation and try to slow down a little. Take some time to focus on the here and now to find a sense of peace.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19)
Capricorns are business-minded, and therefore accept that change is necessary for progress. Bear this in mind as we shift gears this Autumn. Switch things up, keep trying new approaches, and enjoy the results!
Aquarius (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18)
Aquarians are a generous, helpful bunch. You enjoy a calm moment to read a book or simply sit and think. Try to visit new places or learn new skills over this period as you will be at your best!
Pisces (Feb. 19 - March 20)
Pisces are romantics at heart. And with the Autumn equinox comes an increased chance of seeing the Northern Lights. If you get a chance, try to catch them or listen to a podcast about this phenomenon. Enjoy the sense of balance this solar event will bring, and remember to show yourself love and compassion.
So, break out your blankets and grab your favourite book - come Saturday we’ll be in a new season that calls for tranquility and balance.
