Many European countries have been confined, and people have to avoid going out, which means that some changes will also be happening in the kitchen. Indeed, if the best option remains to stock up on groceries and to run your errands all at once to avoid going out too often and limit the risk of spreading the virus, you will have to skip certain products and reinvent the way you cook. Here are our tips for healthy eating, even in the event of an outbreak.

Rationing on quantity

Eating healthy and not gaining weight is not only about the quality of the products you eat, but also about the quantity. There's no need to make 300g of pasta when you're all by yourself, just measure out the right amount to eat as much as you want without overeating. You will do your body good, and your food stock will last longer.

Avoid snacking

Confinement at home means having the pantry at your disposal! Whether you're working from home, or on partial unemployment, it can be hard to resist the temptation to snack all day long. The trick? Drink a large glass of water or a hot drink as soon as you feel like grabbing that chocolate bar. Have a healthy and complete breakfast, a good lunch, a snack in the afternoon, and a gourmet dinner in the evening. And of course, keep yourself busy and don't let boredom win over your food cravings!

Eat vegetables every day

To eat healthy and keep a slim figure throughout the confinement, you need to choose the right products. Although fresh vegetables will be harder to buy, it doesn't mean you should give up on them and only eat pasta during the outbreak. Stock up on canned or frozen vegetables; they are delicious and very healthy. Green beans, corn, carrots, peas, spinach, courgettes, leeks, eggplant and bell peppers...

Opt for homemade meals

No more ready-made meals, rich in sugar, fat and salt! Staying confined to the house can be the occasion to finally start cooking homemade dishes. Bread, yoghurt, pizza, cake, homemade sauces for pasta, risotto, jams... When you cook for yourself, you can get the quality and the quantity right.

Choose the right kind of preparation

To maintain a healthy diet, you need to choose the right products, the right quantity, but above all the right kind of preparation. The ideal way is gentle steam cooking, which preserves all the good nutrients in the food. You can also opt for baking, but avoid anything related to frying or high-temperature cooking. This is less healthy and destroys all nutrients.
