However, we must be aware that there is such as thing as eating too much salt, and hence should pay attention to common foods that contains more salt than is required.

As per an article by Delish, even though we might think of salt as non-negotiable in a kitchen, there are items that could serve as great substitutes to it.

These can perfectly fulfil any salt requirements in cooking. However, the only catch would be that these salt replacements impart added flavours and textures, so chooses these substitutes wisely. Here are some common pantry items that you can use when you run out of salt, or are just in the mood for a little experimentation in the kitchen.

Salted Butter

If you have run out of salt, check if you have salted butter in your fridge. It can make for a perfect substitute for cooking oil, that can meet both your fat and salt needs while cooking. Not to mention, it is also truly delicious.

Soy Sauce

Soy sauce has a ridiculous amount of sodium content. Often while cooking with soy sauce, you would hardly need to add any extra salt. It is this salty goodness of soy that makes it a perfect substitute for regular salt whether you are preparing something quick like a salad or even something more elaborate like meats or sauces.

Anchovies
