Garlic, your answer to clean toilets

On top of its many health benefits, and slimming benefits—yes, you read that right!—garlic can be a very useful addition to your toilet cleaning products. In fact, it contains a substance called allicin—which you can credit for garlic's distinctive aroma—that keeps bacteria and fungi at bay.

How to use garlic to clean your toilets

There are two different ways you can incorporate garlic in your toilet cleaning. The first is to just crush a clove of garlic and leave it in the toilet before you go to sleep, so it can work its magic overnight. When you wake up in the morning, just flush the toilet, and voilà!

The second trick is to make a garlic infusion.

  • Boil a cup of water
  • Chop one or two garlic cloves into small pieces
  • Once the water starts boiling, add the chopped garlic to it
  • Turn off the heat
  • Cover the pot and let it steep for 15 minutes
  • After 15 minutes, you can pour the garlic tea into the toilet

Just like the first trick, it's best to do this before you go to sleep, since the bathroom is least used at night.

Do this twice a week to keep your toilet clean, and free of bacteria and mould. Also, added bonus: garlic can help you get rid of tartar build-up in the toilet. Just keep cleaning your toilet as you would normally.
