Donald Trump lost the presidency to Joe Biden in 2020 and since then he has been campaigning to get back into the Oval Office. Among his continuous campaigning Donald Trump has also been facing numerous legal battles.

For instance, he is currently in a civil fraud case in New York which could have disastrous consequences including penalties of $250 million dollars and a business licence being lost in the Empire State. He is also preparing for his election interference trial set to begin in March.

Though most people would be crushed by the weight of those legal proceedings Donald Trump carries on campaigning with even more vehemence and … promises.

Donald Trump promises to become a ‘dictator’

Yes, you read that correctly... On 5 December, during a pre-recorded Fox News Town Hall in Iowa, the 45th President of the United States made that claim.

According to Reuters, in front of the friendly audience, Trump was asked

Under no circumstances, you are promising America tonight you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?

After being asked twice Donald Trump’s answer was:

No. No. Other than day one.

After this Trump specified that he would use his presidential power to ‘close the southern border with Mexico and expand oil drilling’. CNN offers a direct quote:

I’m going to be, you know he keeps, we love this guy, he says, ‘You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?’ I said, ‘No, no, other than day one. We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling.’ After that I’m not a dictator,

However, it seems like his dictator tendencies wouldn’t stop after day one. CNN reports that, if reelected, Donald Trump plans on having the White House have more control over the Justice Department. The reason behind it is simple, CNN writes that Trump would ‘seek revenge on his critics, including former allies’.

I will appoint a real special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt president in the history of the United States of America, Joe Biden, and the entire Biden crime family,

Donald Trump motivates Joe Biden

Even though Donald Trump would use his powers to prosecute Biden and his family, in order to do that he will have to beat him in the 2024 Presidential run. Indeed, this election is setting up to be a rematch of the 2020 elections as Donald Trump appears on top of the Republican ballot.

In a recent statement, President Joe Biden confessed that without Trump he probably wouldn’t be running again. Indeed, Biden is 81 years old, a good time to retire. However, it seems like the man cannot leave Trump a chance to get back into the White House. At a fundraiser he stated:

If Trump wasn't running, I'm not sure I'd be running, (...) We cannot let him win.

As Reuters reports Biden has continuously warned that his opponent is a threat to democracy. On 5 December, Biden confirmed his thoughts on Trump and shared:

I don’t think anyone doubts our democracy is at risk again

As 2023 ends it appears like the 2024 American Presidential election will be a point of focus. Dictatorship or democracy, no one really knows what would happen if Trump wins again.
