However, after the drama surrounding Phillip Schofield and his exit from ITV’s This Morning, he has shared his thoughts on the matter. Morgan used to be a part of ITV when he was on Good Morning Britain, however, he was sacked two years ago.

Surprisingly, Piers Morgan is on Phillip Schofield’s side as he explains that the latter confided in him how he feels about the situation, which is very different to former This Morning host, Eamonn Holmes's view on the matter.

Piers Morgan says Phillip is ‘utterly heartbroken’

Piers Morgan explains in an article for The Sun that Phillip Schofield told him that he is ‘utterly heartbroken’ over leaving This Morning. Morgan and Schofield haven’t really been friends for 25 years after Morgan wrote an unofficial biography on Schofield in 1992 entitled To Dream a Dream – the Phillip Schofield Story.

Morgan writes in The Sun, that their feud ended when Schofield invited him out for a drunken lunch one day.

Despite not always seeing eye to eye, Piers doesn’t agree with the way ITV bosses ended things with Phillip. He called out his former bosses for not allowing Schofield to say a proper goodbye after hosting This Morning for over 20 years.

Piers Morgan wrote in The Sun:

For ITV to not even give him the chance to say a proper goodbye to his large, loyal audience after 21 years struck me as needlessly churlish, and I know he’s utterly heartbroken about it because he told me himself.

Piers, who has previously called out Katie Price, eludes to his own sacking from ITV’s Good Morning Britain, where he was also denied a proper farewell.

I, too, was deprived of saying goodbye to my GMB audience and that hurt after putting so much effort into gaining their trust.

Piers Morgan expressed his sadness over Phillip Schofield’s exit but does admit not knowing the full details of what went down:

I don’t know the full story behind Phillip Schofield’s downfall, but where I feel personal empathy with him is over the manner of his sacking.

Fans had asked that Piers Morgan become Phillip Schofield’s replacement on the This Morning sofa, however, Morgan turned down his fans’ request and said he wouldn’t take his place:

Thanks to everyone suggesting I might replace Phillip Schofield as Holly Willoughby’ Scotland-host at This Morning in a Lazarus-like comeback to ITV.
