2023 has been a rough year for former golden boy Phillip Schofield. In May, he announced that he was resigning from This Morning and ITV after rumours about an affair with a young runner started going around.

These rumours first emerged internally at ITV in 2020 and at the time both Schofield and the runner denied any romantic involvement. The truth came out three years later and people who were lied to have come out to express their disappointment. That includes This Morning host Holly Willoughby and Schofield’s wife.

As we wait for ITV’s internal investigation to come to a close, it seems like Phillip Schofield has mended one crucial relationship…

Stephanie Lowe, Phillip Schofield’s wife

Phillip Schofield and Stephanie Lowe married in 1993 after they met while working at Children’s BBC. The couple has two daughters together born in 1993 and 1996.

While Schofield and Lowe have been married for 30 years, Schofield came out as gay in February 2020. When he did, his statement read:

With the strength and support of my wife and my daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay.
My family have held me so close: they have tried to cheer me up, to smother me with kindness and love, despite their own confusion

After his coming out, Lowe and Schofield remained married and even ‘best friends.’ It is reported that the family of four is very close. In his 2020 statement, Schofield also wrote:

Steph has been incredible - I love her so very much.
She is the kindest soul I have ever met.

Phillip Schofield in therapy

After the scandal of May 2023, Phillip Schofield gave an interview to the BBC where he confirmed his affair with the younger runner. In the same interview he shared that he wasn’t in his wife’s ‘good book.’

According to a source that spoke to Mail Online, Schofield has been going to therapy regularly in order to cope with the unraveling of the last few months.

(He is) reflecting on what he did wrong and trying to come to terms with his new life. It has all been an incredible shock for him and he is struggling to get his head around it

Mirror also reports that since June, Phillip Schofield has been making regular visits to his family which has been helping him. An anonymous source said:

It's when he is with them that Phil appreciates what actually matters in his life and he is able to smile

Since the scandal, Lowe and Schofield haven’t been seen together but in June, the presenter said:

We are separated but we are very much together. Let's just say it was an incredibly difficult conversation. The most difficult conversation I've ever had to have with her and she is extremely disappointed because I lied to her as well. But she wished me well today.

The two could now be repairing their relationship.
