Love Island 2019 is just days away, and no sooner has the official line-up dropped that cancel culture is calling on Amber Rose Gill to be dropped from the villa for controversial remarks made in an old Instagram post. Check out the video to see what she said!
Amidst the countdown for Love Island, the nation’s most-watched reality TV show, a new media sub culture is rapidly on the rise and is threatening to take down one upcoming contestant after old snaps were revealed.
According to Odyssey, “Cancel culture is, essentially, when people who have said or done problematic things, either now or in the past, are decidedly ‘cancelled’ and people no longer support them or their endeavours”. This is a trend which has brought the demise of many celebrities, and comes most commonly through the resurfacing of older posts including racial slurs or other nowadays unacceptable opinions.
Amber Rose Gill has already fallen victim to cancel culture after controversial posts resurfaced. The ordeal has already begun to affect her Instagram following and may also prevent her from entering the villa as ITV2 bosses are trying everything this year to protect the show.
