It is always tempting to try out new skincare products if they are the fad, but it is not always good for you. Just because a product works for someone does not mean it would work for you too. Studies have shown that most people misdiagnose their skin type, but fortunately, it also shows signals if you use the wrong products for your skin type. Here are some signs that your skincare is not working for you and damaging your skin.

Redness
Harsh topical therapies for acne, such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, can actually irritate the top layers of the skin. They make your skin more red and sensitive and aggravate your acne. Ensure that the products you're using are non-comedogenic and do not clog pores.
Itchiness
The fragrance is one of the main aggressors in skincare products, which can cause skin irritation and itching. If your skin becomes red and irritated after using a product, it could be an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients. It could be possibly due to something you ingested or inhaled.
Dry Skin
Dry skin isn't always a cause for concern, but if your skin is harsher than usual and showing no signs of recovery, look for retinoids in your products. This anti-ageing substance gently exfoliates the skin and promotes the creation of new collagen. If it's causing continual peeling and red, sensitive skin, this may not be the optimal anti-ageing treatment for you.
Oily Skin
Your skincare products could be impacting the composition of your skin. Because our skin has a natural coating of oil that serves as a protective barrier, harsh cleansers and creams peel it away. As compensation, your oil glands will generate extra oil, which leads to breakouts and oily skin.
Breakouts
Using the wrong products can cause breakouts, especially when little, red bumps can indicate that your skin is reacting unfavourably to something. Take notice if your skin is otherwise clear, and breakouts appear out of nowhere.
Rashes
If you get a rash after using the product a few times, it's most likely due to one of the preservatives, perfumes, or chemicals. Consider obtaining allergy patch testing before incorporating new products into your routine.
Stinging Sensation
If your skin feels sensitive to the touch, stings or burns when washing your face hours after using a product, remove it from your regimen. Certain chemicals in products can be harsh for sensitive skin, which can cause a stinging sensation.
Brown Spots and Pigmentation
Brown Spots could be a symptom that your skin has been over-exfoliated. The pigment melanin in the epidermis and dermis deposits in clusters as a result of excessive exfoliation. Balance active skincare products like retinoids with hydration and relaxing skin nourishment to achieve the best results. Similarly, pigmentation takes place as an allergic reaction to products.
