But what is winter-coating, and why should you avoid it?

What is winter coating?

Much like cuffing, winter-coating is all about having someone to cuddle up with as the temperature drops. But, rather than finding someone new, winter-coating is when people contact former partners in an effort to rekindle old flames and find an easy seasonal playmate.

This trend is on the rise as finding someone you already know to stay cosied-up with inside alleviates the emotional and financial stress of dating during a cost-of-living crisis.

But why is winter-coating a bad idea?

Chances are, if someone is eager to speed up the relationship, they may well abandon it with equal haste as the weather warms up! Furthermore, when dating an ex without much thought, you might find yourself repeating old habits and scenarios that caused you to break up in the first place, reliving or adding to any emotional pain endured at the time.

So, if an ex comes back into your life, and you're tempted to reconnect, take it slow! Get to know each other again by talking, going out on dates, and communicating about how and why your relationship needs to change this time around!
