You don’t have to be good at finding that motivation... at hitting the gym after a long day of work... at finishing the full 45 mins of cardio you read in @muscleandfitness would help you drop pounds... at choosing the healthier option... at saying no to the free pastries at work... at passing on drinks at girls night skipping the buffet at thanksgiving dinner... at being KIND TO YOURSELF. This isn’t all or nothing. Keep trying. Keep failing. Keep having good days and bad. Keep sucking at it. Keep doubting yourself. Keep slipping up. Keep falling off the wagon. KEEP TRYING. 'My whole life, I’d been chubby,' says Laura. 'Obese. After trying and failing to get a handle on my health numerous times, my weight had become a serious enough concern that I was considering weight loss surgery.'

Instead, she hit the gym, took up weight-lifting and started eating more healthily. After just a few weeks, she realised that surgery wasn't necessary and that she would be able to lose the weight for herself through hard work.

I stood in the living room of my apartment at over 300 lbs. ⁣ ⁣ 𝟑𝟎𝟎+𝐥𝐛𝐬. ⁣ ⁣ My fridge was stocked with junk. My mind was clouded with defeat. My knees ached. My shoulders hurt. I lost my breath walking my dog. My advised medication looked more like someone three times my age. The mental space I’d devoted to caring for my college relationship was now noticeably vacant, with nothing to focus on but my own path... my own choices. ⁣ ⁣ Nobody else was watching. Nobody else cared. That’s when it hit me. This change had to be for me. ⁣ “Nobody is watching. Nobody cares.” ⁣ My life was going to be what I made of it. ⁣ Not for a boyfriend or a friend group or recognition. ⁣ Because I was trapped in a body that didn’t serve my soul. ⁣ It didn’t let me play or run or jump or surf. It didn’t let me tackle or dribble or snatch and clean. It didn’t let me walk up a flight of stairs without panting. And nobody cared. Except me. ⁣ So I cleared out my fridge. I turned on my computer. I loaded an at-home workout. I tried. I failed... at first. I gassed out... I pressed pause. I caught my breath (for much longer than I needed) and I pressed play again. ⁣ I kept trying. ⁣ Every day. ⁣ The same video.⁣ A little more. ⁣ A little harder. ⁣ ⁣ Five years later, I now know these two things to be fact. ⁣ 1. Nobody is watching. Nobody cares. Except you. ⁣ 2.
