If you have a pack of Tesco Finest Taleggio with a use-by date of 25th January 2021, you should not consume it and instead return it to your nearest Tesco store, where you will be given a full refund. Don’t worry if you haven’t kept your receipt as you don’t need it to show it to receive the refund.

What is listeria monocytogenes?

Listeria monocytogenes, more commonly known simply as listeria, is a type of bacteria. If consumed, it can cause listeriosis, a type of food poisoning which causes flu-like symptoms. Listeria is most commonly found in unpasteurised dairy products, soft cheeses and chilled ready-to-eat foods such as deli meats, pâté and ready-made sandwiches.

Most people with listeriosis will experience no symptoms or mild flu-like symptoms such as high temperature, sickness and diarrhoea, aches and pains and chills. However, listeria can be very serious for pregnant women, people over the age of 65, and people with weakened immune systems.
