On 4th June 2021, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor became not only the second member of the Royal family to be born State-side but to be born in California.

While much was made about Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s daughter, being the first of Queen Elizabeth II’s great-grandchildren to be born in the United States, the young Royal wasn’t the first member of the family to be born on the other side of the pond.

Great-great-granddaughter of King George V

Born on 15th August 2013, Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina Windsor is the daughter of Lord Frederick Windsor, Prince Michael of Kent’s son, and British actress Sophie Winkleman. She was born in Los Angeles, California, because her mother was working in the United States at the time.

However, the young Royal was christened at the Royal Chapel at St. James’s Palace, London. At the time of her birth, she was 42nd in line to the throne;now, she sits at 53rd.

The lesser-known young Royal is the granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth’s cousin Prince Michael of Kent, the great-granddaughter of Prince George, Duke of Kent, and the great-granddaughter of King George V, the late Queen’s grandfather.

Close bond to Prince George and Princess Charlotte

According to The Mirror, Maud attended the same school as Prince George and Princess Charlotte, Thomas’s London Day School in Battersea. She was in the same class as the future King.

According to her mother, Sophie Winkleman, Maud and Prince George enjoyed a playdate shortly before the birth of Princess Charlotte:

We were invited to tea at Kensington Palace just before Princess Charlotte was born. Maud and George got on very well.

Despite being little known to the public, the young Royal has played essential roles in some noteworthy Royal events. Maud and Princess Charlotte both served as bridesmaids at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding on 12th October 2018.

She also served as a bridesmaid at her aunt Lady Gabriella's wedding in 2019 and at Lady Flora Ogilvy’s wedding in 2021.
