Rufus Sewell: A look into his love life

The 56-year-old British actor is soon going to be married three times. He’s currently engaged to American actress Vivian Benitez – who is almost 30 years his junior and just five years older than his son, reports BBC. She is best known for her roles in Arsenal, Criminal Minds and Sky Dancers Grown Up.

The couple had been dating for two years and only made a handful of public appearances together. They shared 2 photos on Instagram to announce the engagement - one of Sewell kissing her on the cheek and the other a close-up picture of the ring. Before Vivian, here’s who he was married to

Rufus Sewell’s first marriage

According to The Mirror, Rufus’ first wife was Yasmin Abdullah, an Australian-Lebanese fashion journalist. Rufus met her in a bar in Australia when she was 19 and he was in his late 20s. The couple relocated to the UK and married four years into their relationship in 1999 at the Camden Registry Office. However, the two filed for a divorce in less than a year - the marriage only lasted nine months but she kept her married name and is still known as Yasmin Sewell.

Rufus Sewell’s second marriage and his first son

Months after Rufus divorced Yasmin, he embarked on a relationship with scriptwriter and producer Amy Gardner in 2001. They went on to have a child in 2002, a son called William who would now be around 22. Rufus married Amy in 2004 but the union didn’t last for long. The couple filed for a divorce in 2006. After splitting from Rufus, Amy went on to marry film producer Will Ricker.

Rufus Sewell’s on co-parenting

The actor who mostly plays villains in movies then went on to date magazine editor Ami Komai. The two dated up until 2020. Rufus shares a 10-year-old daughter Lola with Ami. It is understood that she splits her time between her parents’ house. Co-parenting Lola with Ami during the lockdown was a challenging aspect for Rufus. In an interview in 2001, the actor described his personal life as a ‘rocky road’ and said:

[I am] either looking forward to having a day off [from his daughter] or looking forward to having her back.

Apart from this string of romances, the star has been linked to Kate Winslet, Donna Air, Alice Eve, late Peaky Blinders star Helen McCrory and kooky acting legend Helena Bonham Carter.
