Okunoshima is a small island located in Japan’s inland sea. Although in the past, the island was famous for being host to a toxic gas factory, the environment is now a lot safer and friendlier, as you can see in this video.

However, this place has a far less glorious past. In fact, between 1929 and 1945, Okunoshima was used to test toxic gases. And as the website Oddity Central states, it is even possible that the first rabbits on this island were transported here to observe the effects of the gases on these animals.

It’s also worth knowing that, although authorities confirm that this place is now totally risk-free, they nevertheless advise tourists not to stray from the major paths and roads in this area.

According to some sources, lots of the rabbits appearing in the footage could in fact, be descendants of guinea pigs that were used to test toxic gases during the second world war. And as the video shows, these wild rabbits are completely tame and approach humans very easily, particularly when they have food.
