1 – Identify the narcissist
Discover our latest podcast
First of all, you have to be sure that this person is in fact a narcissist. This can be complicated because they know how to hide it and this can be confusing to the people around them. Do they talk to you in quite a vague way? Do you feel patronised when they speak to you?
2 – Don’t reveal too much
Every little detail of your intimate life that you reveal to them, they can and will use to manipulate you further and make you feel worthless. Don’t share anything else with this person. If you absolutely have to cross paths with them in your day to day life, keep the conversation generic and basic.
3 – Take note of what they say to you and what they do
There is often a large gap between a narcissist’s words and actions. Take note of what they do, and you’ll find the gaps between what they say and what they do. This will allow you to know for certain whether they’re manipulating you or not, and these notes could be your secret weapon during one of their next attacks.
4 – Confront them
Once your eyes have been opened about this person, you’re going to have to confront your mistakes. This allows you to free yourself from everything that the narcissist could possibly do to you. But we don’t suggest that you do this alone. Surround yourself with people who know you well so that you can keep going and face their manipulation attempts.
