Aldi’s ‘Magic Bags’ would soon to be available on the app Too Good To Go for as little as £3.30, as the company starts their 5-week trial run on the anti-food waste platform.

While striving to maintain cheap prices for its customers, Aldi has also been vocal about its commitment to reducing food waste. Aldi states,

As reported by Retail Gazette, the company has now launched an exciting trial run with the anti-food waste app Too Good To Go, set to last for 5 weeks.

What Aldi’s ‘Magic Bags’ consist of?

The app Too Good To Go has been working with a lot of supermarkets, restaurants and grocery stores to reduce food waste. Often, a lot of food which are still edible and in good condition are discarded just because they are unsold.

According to the Too Good To Go website, they let ‘customers buy and collect Magic Bags of this food - at a great price - directly from businesses.’ They state that the company has saved half a million bags of food from going to waste. And Aldi is set to be part of this initiative on a trial basis.

Aldi’s Magic Bags would contain an assortment of items, which the customers would not have any prior information about. According to Retail Gazette, these bags would have a minimum value of £10, and would be made available for £3.30 each. This trial run would be for the next 5 weeks.

Aldi’s anti-food waste initiatives

Aldi had earlier introduced several new initiatives in their stores, which included price cuts on select products in an attempt to reduce food waste, marking down its dry products like rice and pasta with ‘imperfect packaging’ by 30% and offering up to 75% reductions on perishable products on the last day of life.

As per Retail Gazette, regarding the latest bid by Aldi, Liz Fox, Aldi UK Corporate Responsibility Director said,

This trial will show us whether Too Good To Go can help us make better use of food that is nearing the end of its life while also giving customers the chance to enjoy our products at even more amazing prices than usual.
