With the end of the year fast approaching, it’s as good a time as any to look back on the past year and reflect on how it has been for us. Many companies are also doing a retrospective look back at the past year and sharing what we as customers have been like, as per the available data. For example, Uber Eats just shared some of the weirdest food requests made by customers in 2022.

And now, as reported by Food&Wine, Google has just unveiled its list of the top recipe searches for the past year 2022 and there are a couple of surprises here.

The 'searches that defined the past year'

The list of searches shared by Google are not the top searches in each category, rather these have been termed ‘the trillions of searches that defined the past year’ in the United States, which determined the wave of trends among people. So, these searches are less about popularity alone but more about the most significant sustained spike in search over a period of time.

Top 10 recipe trends of 2022

In the category of the top trendiest recipes of 2022, here are the top 10 winners,

  1. Sugo
  2. Cincinnati chili
  3. Marry me chicken
  4. Quick pancake
  5. Mango pie
  6. Green goddess salad
  7. Jennifer Aniston salad
  8. Grinder sandwich
  9. Bella Hadid sandwich
  10. The Bear spaghetti

TikTok of course had a big impact on food trends taking over. As per Google, the top TikTok-inspired recipe searches included ‘cinnamon roll,’ followed by ‘pink sauce,’ ‘grinder sandwich,’ ‘green goddess salad,’ ‘cowboy caviar,’ ‘marry me chicken,’ ‘salmon rice bowl,’ ‘pot roast,’ ‘Mexican rice, and ‘crab rangoon.’

‘Aperol spritz,’ was the top search in the alcoholic beverage department, while as in the case of data from Uber Eats customer orders, there has been a steady increase in interest in non-alcoholic drinks, with ‘non-alcoholic rum’ topping the list.
