Lidl recalls contaminated baguettes leaving French customers in a frenzy

Health scandals have been multiplying in recent weeks. Some time ago the company Buitoni, which mainly sells frozen pizzas, recalled some of its products as they were potentially contaminated by E. coli bacteria. Lidl recently recalled some of its products as well. The company has recalled whole batches of baguettes that may contain pieces of metal, as announced on Twitter on Saturday 14 May 2022. Consumers who have recently purchased bread from a Lidl shop are advised to be extremely careful.

The bread model recalled by the German company is the 'rustic cereal baguette'. This product weighs about 250 grams. It is also unique in that it is sold in shops without a brand name. The baguettes that may contain pieces of iron were put on sale on 3 and 13 May 2022. All batches with the GTIN number 4056489495017 are affected by this recall.

Lidl in France sold metal baguettes

French customers are especially affected by this incident as the metal baguettes have only been sold at stores throughout France and the French are big consumers of baguettes. If any customers have purchased the bread in question, they are asked to return it to the shop. Refunds have been arranged for those affected, and a special telephone number has been set up for consumers (0800.900.343). Lidl put out a statement saying:

Due to the risk of injury and adverse effects from ingestion of this product, as a precautionary measure, persons holding products belonging to the described lots are advised not to consume them.
