Food recall: Major supermarkets remove popular pantry staples from shelves for health reasons

If you frequent major supermarkets like Asda, Tesco or Aldi, you might have noticed some popular pantry staples like certain brands of pasta, cheese and tinned sardines missing from the shelves. Well, the retailers had to pull down these products as they have been recalled by their manufacturers, The Sun reports.

Primula Spicy Cheese N Jalapeno

The cost saving shop, Aldi is no longer stocking the Primula Spicy Cheese N Jalapeno in some of its stores due to concerns they might be unsafe for consumption as a result of temperature control issue’, an article in The Sun claims.

Not all items under this brand name are affected; only the 140g tubes with a use by date of February 7, 2023 are being recalled. Additionally, the Primula Spicy Cheese N Jalapeno in question should have been bought from one of 81 stores in the Midlands, listed here on Aldi’s website.

If you bought this product recently, you should return it for a refund.

John West sardines

Stores like Tesco, Morrisons and Asda are no longer selling John West 95g boneless sardines in sunflower oil and 120g normal sardines in olive oil. Food giant, John West did not give much detail about the reason for the recall expect that some of the tins may pose a ‘microbiological contamination risk’ to consumers.

Supermarkets in the UK that carry these products have since displayed notices in all their branches since the recall was issued. They have also removed the items from their shelves with a warning to users who already purchased them not to consume the fish.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) regulator said:

If you have bought either of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund
