What is Graysexuality?

It is a whole different type. Here’s everything you need to know about being graysexual!

Graysexuality is a type of sexual orientation that stems from the fact that sexuality isn’t always white or black. There is a gray area that many people are a part of. Graysexuality is when someone experiences limited sexual attraction. These people do not fall under any of the major types of sexual orientation.

It is often called gray-asexuality, gray-A, or gray-ace. The term describes a sexually gray area and is intentionally vague to categorise people who fall somewhere between asexual and sexual. It could be possible for a person to experience demisexuality and graysexuality together. Your orientation can feel different and shift over time, so it’s possible to fluctuate.

Sexuality is Spectrum

Not many people realise that sexuality is a spectrum and it is extremely wide. Often one sexuality falls into another and that is why graysexuality falls within the asexuality spectrum. However, it is very different from asexuality. They do experience sexual attraction once in a while but not mostly don’t. This has nothing to do with their libido.

Graysexual people do not fall under the demisexual category either. They could have a sexual history and still be graysexual now. Their sexual attraction level goes from sometimes to not at all to only enjoys sex under special circumstances. Thus, it is very different from demisexuality. Graysexuality doesn’t make a person hate sex, they might like it and even seek it, however sexual attraction is not something that they experience a lot.

How does it work?

Gray sexual people may not have an intrinsic need for sex all the time, however, in a relationship, they do bond with their partners. Even if they may not be interested in sex themselves yet they still would take part in it for their partners. This also doesn’t mean that they are romantically inclined towards people or they just haven’t found the right one for them.

There are different ways through which gray sexual people show love and affection. This could range from cuddling to talking and so on. Consequently, they might not prioritise sexual attraction while choosing a partner or even view sex as an important part of a relationship. How a gray sexual person chooses to be in a relationship varies greatly from individual to individual. However, some basic features like getting involved in less sexually active relationships may remain the same.
