How to find a hobby when you have no idea what you like to do

We all have those days when we feel completely lost as if there's nothing to do, nowhere to go and no one to talk to. You go through the list of things you used to enjoy and yet everything seems mildly boring or not quite right.

Or, if you’re like me you just enjoy watching movies while scrolling through your phone watching dog videos, but that hardly counts as a hobby. Plus, the added pressure of interviewers asking people about their hobbies and them lying that it’s hiking, reading books, and charity (I am people). It's tough out there. So, how exactly do you find a hobby?

How to find a hobby

One of the easiest ways to find a hobby is to think about the things you used to enjoy as a child. What did you like to do for fun when you were younger? Maybe you liked playing sports, riding your bike, or building things with Legos. If there's something from your childhood that you still enjoy, just go for it.

If that doesn’t work, try something new and don't be afraid to experiment. There are plenty of hobbies out there that you may have never even considered before. Who knows, maybe you'll find your new favourite pastime by trying something completely different!

Online hobby communities

There are a few key places people go when they want to find new hobbies. The first place is online hobby communities. These can be great because they introduce you to a variety of different hobbies and let you explore what interests you.

Local meetups

Another great place to look for new hobbies is local meetups. Whatever your interests may be, there's likely a meetup group for it in your area. This is a great way to get involved in your community and try out new things with like-minded people.

Google

I don’t mean Google as in corporate – although that would be a very nice and well-paid hobby. What I mean is good ‘ol fashioned research. The internet is a wealth of information on just about everything. If there's something you think you might like, spend some time reading up on it and seeing if it's the right fit for you.
