Eamonn Holmes recovering in hospital after suffering stroke
GB News viewers were left shocked as Eamonn Holmes, the well-known broadcaster, is currently recovering in hospital after suffering a stroke. His absence from the breakfast sofa has left fans hoping for his recovery.
One of Britain’s most recognisable TV personalities, Eamonn Holmes is currently recovering in hospital after a stroke confirmed by GB News. Known for his candid style and trademark wit, Eamonn was taken ill last week and, shortly after, it was confirmed by GB News that he had suffered a stroke. The GB News Breakfast presenter, whose on-air chemistry with co-host Ellie Costello became a fixture in households, has now requested privacy while he recovers.
Health struggles leave their mark
This isn’t the first time Eamonn’s health has made headlines. Over recent years, he has been open about his battles with chronic back pain, nerve issues, and leg mobility problems. Past surgeries, including spine and double hip replacements, led to persistent discomfort and occasional use of a mobility scooter.
In May 2025, Eamonn’s health challenges became apparent to viewers during several on-air mishaps. One morning, in front of guest Charlie Rowley, an audible crash left Ellie Costello exclaiming “oh my gosh” live, as Eamonn ended up flat on his back. As the cameras returned, Eamonn greeted viewers with:
“Welcome back. Good to see you again. Especially good for me to see you again. I am still alive, yes.”
On another occasion, he explained that his chair “gave way” and that he found himself “lying flat on my back.”
GB News and colleagues rally around
Following this latest health scare, a GB News spokesperson confirmed the broadcaster’s condition:
“Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke.”
The statement continued:
“He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better. His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People’s Channel when he is ready to return.”
During his absence, Alex Armstrong takes over presenting duties for GB News Breakfast alongside Ellie Costello. GB News CEO, Angelos Frangopoulos, made it clear the broadcaster is rooting for Eamonn, saying:
“Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we’re with him every step of the way as he recovers.”
Eamonn’s health journey has also affected his personal life. In a 2022 interview with The Sun, he admitted:
“Even my own family are bored of my moaning,” and “It has caused some strain and Ruth is fed up of hearing about it and of me saying I can’t walk the dog or tidy up, but I can’t help it. It’s agony.”
After marrying Ruth Langsford in 2010, the couple announced their separation in 2024 following years of health-related tension.
Despite these challenges, Eamonn’s signature resilience and humour have often shone through—such as his on-air complaint about faulty chairs:
“And they’re very wonky wheels on chairs that we’ve got here, and matter of fact, we don’t really like the chairs full stop, do we? They’re a bit slippy and slidey and I’ve slipped and slid off mine there.”
