Following the shocking news that he won’t be appearing in series 2 of Bridgerton, rumours that Regé-Jean Page could be cast as the next James Bond have intensified. The popular star is now one of the favourites to take on the role after Daniel Craig hangs up his tux later this year after 15 years in the role.
31-year-old Londoner Regé-Jean shot to worldwide fame as the Duke of Hastings in Netflix’s period drama with a twist, Bridgerton. He’s certainly proved he’s got the good looks and charm of James Bond and he’s previously appeared in an action role as Captain Khora in 2018’s Mortal Engines.
What has Regé-Jean Page said about Bond?
This week, Regé-Jean opened up about the Bond rumours in an interview with The Mirror. He said:
Ah, the 'B' word. I think that if you are British, and you do anything of note that other people take notice of, then people will start talking about that. I think that’s fairly normal, and I'm flattered to be in the category of Brits that people have noticed. Nothing more – or less – than that.
Referencing the rollercoaster of a year the world has been through with the pandemic, he continued:
I think the concept of having plans in this moment in history is mildly hilarious. So I've given up on making them.
Whilst it’s definitely not a confirmation, we certainly won’t be ruling Regé-Jean out of the running for Bond.
Who else is rumoured to be the next James Bond?
Just ahead of Regé-Jean in the bookies’ odds is Tom Hardy who has long been rumoured for the role. James Norton and Idris Elba are hot favourites whilst Outlander star Sam Heughan is also in the frame. Peaky Blinders’ Cillian Murphy also features in the odds as an outsider bet alongside Tom Hiddleston and Aidan Turner.
