The Effects Of Palm Oil On Oranguatans

1. Habitat destruction: Their habitats are being destroyed due to the high demand in food products that require palm oil. Palm oil is the most consumed vegetable oil in the world and nearly 50% of products sold in the world contain the oil. With this high consumer demand, deforestation is becoming a bigger issue for the world. The palm oil plantations destroy natural habitats for animals like orangutans, tigers, elephants, and rhinos.

2. Driven to extinction: Studies have shown that the Sumatran orangutans that live in Borneo, Indonesia are being driven to extinction. From 1992-2000 the population declined by more than 50%. If mankind continues to use products that demand palm oil, the species will be extinct in no time.

3. Products that contain palm oil: Some everyday products that contain palm oil include: lipstick, pizza dough, shampoo, ice cream, laundry detergent, cookies, various soaps and lotions. Keep in mind, there are still many other products.

4. What you can do to help: You can help by showing your support via your social media account and try consuming less products that contain palm oil. Creating public awareness and education is the key for moving towards the right direction.
