The news was announced on Instagram with a post from Giles’ two children. So, let’s have a look back at Giles’ career and personal life, and find out more about her two children who loved their ‘incredible mother’ dearly.

Annabel Giles’ career

Born in Pontypool, Wales, Giles started modelling in her 20s. She then moved to presenting, gaining a reputation as a funny, lively personality through hosting ITV shows Razzmatazz and Night Network.

She had success in a variety of roles as an actress, radio agony aunt, and show panellist. Giles even tried her hand at musicals, featuring in Rehab The Musical in 2022, and went on I'm a Celebrityin 2013.

Channel 4 news anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who starred alongside Giles on Posh Frocks And New Trousers, described her as 'funny, clever and gorgeous':

Annabel Giles was one of my first tv partners in crime and I remember just being in awe of her.

Annabel Giles’ personal life

Giles was previously married to Midge Ure the musician and record producer. She had a daughter, Molly, with him who has followed in her father’s footsteps with a career in music. Molly is the lead singer of the pop-punk group The Faders.

Giles later divorced Ure and had a second child, Tedd. He was born with XYY syndrome and Asperger syndrome, and this had a big impact on Giles as she struggled to find schooling solutions that worked with her son’s distinctive educational needs.

In 2011, Giles shared her and her son’s experiences on a blog that ended up reaching an anonymous benefactor who helped provide support towards Tedd’s education.

In their statement, Molly and Tedd said:

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of our incredible mother, Annabel Giles, who passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon at Martlets Hospice in Hove. In July, Mum was diagnosed with a stage 4 Glioblastoma, a fast-growing and highly aggressive malignant brain tumour.

The post highlighted how close Giles’ children were to their mother and how devastated they are by her passing:

Mum was truly one of a kind, an enigma to those privileged to share her life. True to her nature, she kept spirits high and maintained her quick wit until the very end. Her humour and laughter will leave us inspired to live life to the fullest, just as she always did.

Our thoughts are with those who were close to Giles during this difficult time, but they can find comfort in the fact that she will always be remembered as a cheerful, positive force.
