Energy bills: Save £112 a year with this quick combi boiler adjustment

As the conflict in Russia and Ukraine continues there is still no sign of energy prices going down. Spiralling inflation has sparked the cost of living crisis throughout Europe. Indeed, inflation in the eurozone jumped to a new all-time high of 9.1 per cent in August, in a report by Euronews. But, as the threat of blackouts looms over us, there is one thing Britons are being encouraged to do to reduce their energy bill further.

Nesta, the UK’s Innovation Agency for social good, is encouraging consumers to reset the flow temperature on their boiler to 60°C or below. This initiative is supported by Which? and energy suppliers, such as Energy UK, EDF, E.ON Next and Octopus Energy.

Nesta have calculated that if 10 million UK households with combi boilers reset their flow temperature to 60°C or below, this would cut £1 billion from energy bills.

In addition to this, MSNreports ‘the measure would cut carb emissions by the equivalent of six million transatlantic flights.’

Most people unaware

It is thought the majority of people are unaware they are able to save money by reducing their combi boiler’s flow temperature. According to The Daily Express,

Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed that only one in 10 people had lowered their flow temperature in the last year.

Nesta also found this measure saved more money than fitting a smart thermostat, which saved each household on average £64 a year.

Other free money saving measures include closing all curtains at night, which saves £10 a year, and placing foil behind radiators which can save up to £11 a year.
