It came as a shock to the world when the 2-time Oscar-winning actor was accused of these crimes. However, he recently announced that he will be flying to the UK to take a stand in the court, soon.
Accused of sexual assault
It is not the first time that such allegations have been made against Spacey. The House of Cards actor was charged with assaulting three men sexually. He was also charged with ‘causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent’ as reported by The Guardian. Moreover, he has been charged with two counts of sexual assault on a man who is now in his 40s, when he was in London in 2005.
The charges and evidence, that were provided are being investigated by the Metropolitan Police. The 62-year-old is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court at 10:00 BST on Thursday, June 16.
Spacey responds to the allegations
Spacey responded to the allegations in an exclusive statement given to Good Morning Americavia a spokesperson. The statement said:
I very much appreciate the Crown Prosecution Service's statement in which they carefully reminded the media and the public that I am entitled to a fair trial, and innocent until proven otherwise. While I am disappointed with their decision to move forward, I will voluntarily appear in the U.K. as soon as can be arranged and defend myself against these charges, which I am confident will prove my innocence.
In addition to this Spacey was, previously, accused of sexual assault by Anthony Rapp. He claims that, in 1986, when Spacey was 26 and Rapp was just 14 years old, he was invited to a party where Spacey was present as well. The actor then, 'climbed on top' ofthen, teenager Rapp and ‘engaged in sexual advance’ without his consent, according to, TheIndependent. Spacey denied these allegations and deemed them false because of lack of evidence.
