While most of us have been following these guidelines a lot of people have given up on them or chosen to ignore them from the beginning.

The reason medical professionals suggest taking these measures is not only to protect ourselves but also to the wellbeing of those around us.

A Florida man is now fighting for his life after contracting the coronavirus from his son who, despite pleas from his parents, decided to go out and gather with friends, without wearing a face mask.

This comes not long after the news that young people were throwing COVID parties where the aim was to actually become infected with the virus.

John Place, 42, has been hospitalized for 3 weeks now after his son decided to gather with friends, despite his stepmother asking him not to. They were extra cautious when it came to the virus in their household due to John being overweight and diabetic.

After their 21-year-old son went out with his friends, he unknowingly contracted the virus and ended up infecting his entire family including his stepmother, brother, half-sister and father. Originally he thought it was just a common cold and took over the counter medicine. Even after he was told that one of his friends tested positive for the virus, he still did not believe that he had it.

John Place was luckily the only one in the family that required hospitalization, and his wife has since set up a GoFundMe page in order to raise funds for their hospital bills since he has been unable to work at their photo booth business.

Michelle Zymet, Place's wife, spoke to the media regarding her son's actions:

They don't necessarily listen. It could be peer pressure... maybe they think, "None of us are sick. We are fine." They don't understand many of us are asymptomatic and are positive carriers of the virus...You let your guard down just one time, it's all it takes, you come home, and you infect the entire house.

During times like these its more important than ever to consider our actions and protect the ones around us. We hope John is able to make a full recovery and wish the best for him and his family.
