As the Winter Fuel Payments are being handed out, some households could be entitled to an extra £25 from the DWP this winter if they meet certain criteria.

You could be entitled to an extra

According to Echo, the DWP has a scheme to offer extra help to certain households now that winter is here.

Indeed people could get £25 across seven-day periods until March 31, 2024, if the area they live in has an average temperature recorded as, or forecast to be 0 degrees or below for seven consecutive days.

The extra money is to help towards heating bills when the weather is particularly cold and isn’t a constant payment as the criteria to be paid are very specific.

Who is entitled to the extra £25?

The extra £25 payment is the Cold Weather Payment scheme offered by the DWP. It is handed out to those who also receive the following benefits:

  • Pension Credit,
  • Income Support,
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance,
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance,
  • Universal Credit and/or Support for Mortgage Interest

The scheme runs from November 1 to March 31. You can use the government postcode checker to see if your area could be due a payment.
