As per Yorkshire Live, the DWP will be handing out an extra £300 this month, which will likely be appreciated just before the Christmas period, which can be an expensive time of year for some. However, not everyone is eligible for this extra payment, indeed there are several requirements you need to fill in order to receive the bonus payment. Here is everything you need to know.

You could get an extra £300 this winter

The DWP sent out the following reminder:

A Pensioner #CostOfLivingPayment of £300 per household will be paid as a top up to those eligible for the #WinterFuelPayment.

To qualify for the ‘top up’, you must already be claiming or entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for the winter of 2023-2024. Moreover, all those born before September 25, 1957, will automatically qualify for the extra payment.

If you meet these requirements, you will receive the ‘top up’ at the same time as your November payments, as reported by Yorkshire Live.

How do you know if you’ll get the extra payment?

According to Yorkshire Live, if you are eligible for the ‘top up’, you will receive a letter from the DWP detailing the exact amount you will be entitled to.

Depending on your situation, you could get an extra payment between £150 and £300. For the Winter Fuel Payment, you could receive anywhere between £250 and £600.

If you haven’t received a letter from the DWP but think you are eligible for any payments, you can make a claim, either by filling out a form or calling 0800 731 0160.
