The DWP’s cost of living payments are to be supplemented by another £100 for thousands of households. Many have already received the first of three payments of £300, and the second should arrive in bank accounts within the next month. The third and final payment will arrive in 2024, and the release date has recently been brought forward. However, in Yorkshire, eligible households can expect to receive a further £100 help towards the cost of living.

With Halloween coming this week, Christmas is not as far away as it once was, and the colder months leading up to the festive season can pose a financial challenge for many. Leeds City Council has decided to address this issue with some extra cost of living help. Here’s how to find out if you’re eligible and when to expect the payment.

Are you eligible for the £100?

The payment is being distributed by Leeds City Council as part of the Department for Work and Pensions’ (DWP) Household Support Fund. Gov.uk states that this fund ‘could help if you’re struggling to afford things like: energy and water bills, food, essential items’ and explains that ‘if you get benefits, they will not be affected if you get a payment from a Household Support Fund scheme’.

The funding totals £842 million in England and is divided up between local councils who then share it out to eligible households. In Leeds, the council has decided to pay £75 or £100 to households who receive Council Tax Support. According to Yorkshire Live:

To qualify for the cash, households must have been receiving Council Tax Support on the qualifying date of Monday, October 23, 2023. You do not need to make a claim to get the money as the council will contact those who are eligible directly.

When you can expect the payment

Firstly, the amount you receive will change depending on who is in your household. Households with children will receive a £100 payment, as will pensioner households. Working age households without children will get £75.

The council has said that it will issue the payments via Post Office voucher and that eligible households should receive the money by the end of November.

In the meantime, we have some great money-making tips you can check out, like this simple change which can make you an easy £205.
