According to The Sun, Maya found out about the job a while ago. She said:

I found out quite a few months ago.
A little while ago I found out it was a no-brainer obviously because I’m a massive fan of the show.
I was like ‘ok when does it start?’ and they explained they were doing the winter one again so I thought ‘right, I’m coming back soon.’

And it was all a bit of a blur, to be honest, but I found out and said yes absolutely, so now I’m off to South Africa.
