Loosely based on theBritish Royal Family, the show takes inspiration from real-life Royal members, giving them a reel-life twist. With its own share of dramatized stories, it stays true to real-life events, but with a generous dash of fiction.

There is a striking similarity between the cast and the members of the Royal Family. Here are some character resemblances that are uncanny when compared to their real-life counterparts.

Queen Elizabeth II

The late Queen Elizabeth II was known for being Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, and for her unique sense of style as well. The Crown really nails the character brief, from her expression to her hair and jewelry. They recreated every tiny detail about the Queen, including her famous hairdo. Season five's Imelda Staunton is the spitting image of her.

Prince Philip

From the kilt and tie that Prince Philip wore to his posture, the makers recreated the Duke of Edinburgh to the dot when he was portrayed by Matt Smith in seasons one and two. Even the real-life and reel-life facial features are eerily similar.

Princess Diana

Princess Diana is a fan favorite, in real and reel-life. From her iconic hairdo to her style that breaks away from the restrictions that come from being in the Royal Family, The Crown accurately depicted it all with Emma Corrin in season four.

Season five, which is set in the 90s, was Diana’s most rebellious phase, with more daring outfits and experimental styles. Based on the first looks of the season, they seem to have gotten the classic Di look spot on with Elizabeth Debicki for season five.

Prince Charles

Prince Charles, who is heir to the throne, undergoes a typical transformation from an awkward and insecure teenager to a middle-aged man. And, the show perfectly captures that transformation. Prince Charles is another character that the show represented most accurately with Josh O’Connor in season four.
