To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the broadcasting industry, King Charles III will make an appearance in an episode of The Repair Shop on BBC One. Each episode of The Repair Shop focuses on skilled artisans from all over the nation restoring sensitive family heirlooms for their owners. The majority of heirlooms are discovered via social media, and their owners don’t have to pay for the repairs.

Preserve the art

In the special episode, the King will meet the host of the show - Jay Blades – in Ayrshire in Scotland. And he’ll give Blades a tour of the Dumfries House – owned by the King's charity and it operates a programme that teaches age-old trades like wood carving – by the King.

The episode was filmed between autumn 2021 and March 2022, that is before Charles ascended to the throne. BBC confirms that the King will choose a piece of pottery made for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee along with an 18th Century clock that needs restoration.

The aim of the special episode is to showcase the shared interest of the show and King Charles’s passion to preserve heritage craft skills. Blades said:

You've got someone from a council estate and someone from a royal estate that have the same interests about apprenticeships and heritage crafts and it is unbelievable to see that two people from so far apart, from different ends of the spectrum, actually have the same interests.

People will see the former Prince of Wales as you rarely see him - and he is as captivated by the skills of the team who work on his items as any of our Repair Shop visitors.
The episode is a real treat and we hope that people enjoy it as much as we do.

Meanwhile, Dumfries house claims that they are ‘proud to have partnered with The Repair Shop for this very special episode.’
