As per Town & Country, Joe Biden often talked about being ‘one of the poorest members of Congress’. Indeed, the President has a lifelong obsession with real estate and has often bought homes outside of his budget, forcing him to have multiple mortgages and loans.

Despite his ‘setbacks’Biden, who was bullied in school for his stutter, is no longer on the ‘poorer’ side of things. Earlier this month (May), Joe and Jill Biden released their joint tax returns, and it showed they earned millions. Let’s have a look at Biden’s impressive home portfolio and how much each is worth.

Joe Biden’s first home in Greenville, Delaware

As per Town & Country, Joe Biden - who had recently become a widower, his first wife, Neilia had died in a car crash with his daughter Naomi in 1972 - bought a former DuPont mansion in Greenville for $185,000, in 1974.

According to Homes & Gardens, Biden bought the mansion after learning it was going to be demolished. When the President purchased the mansion, it was in disrepair and Biden extensively renovated it to its current glory.

The 1930s mansion is equipped with five bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Biden restored three original fireplaces. The outside of the mansion maintains its historic appearance, with a Colonial-style structure, stucco, and a gable roof. Biden also added a sizable pool and a basketball court.

In 1988, his mansion became the headquarters for his first presidential run. In 1996, Biden decided to sell the property for a massive $1.2 million.

Joe Biden’s main residence in Greenville, Delaware

In 1996, Joe Biden bought 4 acres of lakehouse land and built a 6,850-square-foot home, which has become his main residence. According to Zillow, the land was bought for $350,000, and with the home he built, it is now estimated to be worth between $1 to $2 million.

The home boasts three bedrooms with four and a half bathrooms. The home also features a grand fireplace and a signature stucco exterior, as per Homes & Gardens. Moreover, Joe Biden and his family reportedly spend many weekends together as well as summer holidays.

The home also has an attached garage, which is likely used to house Joe Biden’s 1967 Corvette Stingray and there is a chance the President has other impressive cars in his collection.

The land also houses a smaller cottage, which Biden allegedly rented out to the Secret Service for $2,200 to keep his private security while at home.

As per Homes & Gardens, Biden had considered selling his beloved home when his son, Beau was battling brain cancer. However, it is said that former president, Barack Obama offered to lend Biden the money so he could keep his home.

Joe Biden’s summer retreat in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

Jill and I have dreamed of being able to buy a place at the beach – a home where we can bring the whole family. We feel very lucky that we're now able to make that happen and are looking forward to spending time with our family in the place that matters most to us in the world.

Joe Biden temporarily rented a home in McLean, Virginia

According to Homes & Gardens, Joe Biden decided to take a break from politics in 2016 and rented a mansion estate in McLean, Virginia, which is not far from the political hub of Washington D.C.

It is also where Jackie Kennedy grew up.

It is said that rent for the five-bedroom home is $20,000 a month. As per Town & Country, it was reported that Biden had stopped renting the home in February 2020.
