Joe Biden’s German Shepherd has once again bitten a US Secret Service worker at the White House. The man, an non uniformed division officer, was attacked by the purebred at 8pm on Monday 25 September. He was treated onsite and the Secret Service has confirmed that he ‘is doing just fine’.

However, this is far from the first time that Biden’s pet has chowed down on the limb of a White House employee. Before this dog, who is named Commander, there was another who eventually had to be sent away. So, let’s sink our teeth into the history of Biden’s biting best friends.
Bien’s dog has attacked staff at least 10 other times
Commander has reportedly attacked Secret Service personnel, with or without biting, at least 10 other times. The Evening Standard specifies that these incidents occurred between October 2022 and January 2023.
Records from the Department of Homeland Security show that one injured member had to be taken to hospital for treatment. Another’s skin on their hand and arm was actually punctured when the canine attacked them after Biden unleashed the dog outside the White House.
Commander kept Biden company after he tested positive for Covid-19 and carried out a period of isolation. He shared a snap of him taking calls with his pooch lounging nearby on X.
The biting dog has become a ‘hazard’
Puppy Commander was gifted to Biden by his brother in 2021. But now, the dog is big and has become a problem. Communications director for first lady Jill Biden, Elizabeth Alexander, said:
The White House can be a stressful environment for family pets, and the first family continues to work on ways to help Commander handle the often unpredictable nature of the White House grounds.
However, former USSS agent Jonathan Wackrow told CNN:
There’s uniqueness here where it’s the residence of the president of the United States, but it’s also the workplace for hundreds, thousands of people.
And you can’t bring a hazard into the workplace. And that’s what is essentially happening with this dog. One time you can say it’s an accident, but now multiple incidents, it’s a serious issue.
The Bidens have previous experience with an aggressive pet in the dog-eat-dog environment of American politics. The first offender was also a German Shepherd, named Major, who eventually had to be sent off to live with friends of the president in Delaware after similar incidents. Perhaps Commander could face the same fate if he can’t keep his teeth to himself.
