John Lewis never fail to create a beautiful and emotional advert for their Christmas campaign and this year's is no exception. Following on from last year's 'Moz the Monster' ad, this year's outing is entitled 'The Boy & The Piano' and stars legendary singer-songwriter Elton John.
The ad follows Elton John's life story in reverse order, starting from the present day and ending with a young Elton John receiving a piano as a Christmas gift from his mother. In a departure from previous John Lewis Christmas adverts, which usually feature popular current singers covering classic songs by other artists, Elton sings his own 'Your Song' in the ad. It's not the first time John Lewis have used this song for a Christmas ad, though, as Ellie Goulding performed a cover of it for the 2010 festive campaign, 'A Tribute to Givers'.
In a statement, Elton John said: 'It's been a lovely opportunity for me to reflect on my life in music and the incredible journey I have been on, and how first playing my grandmother's piano marks the moment when music came into my life. The ad is absolutely fantastic and I've truly loved every minute of being a part of it.'
To tie in with the new ad, John Lewis will be installing pianos for customers to use in 14 of their stores across the UK, as well as installing the dressing room, living room and recording studio sets used in the ads to the third floor of the flagship Oxford Street store. They'll also be selling a range of vintage Elton John T-shirts.
The advert will air on TV for the first time on Thursday 15th November at 9.15pm but if you can't wait, you can watch it now just above!
