This disease is called PGAD, Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder. People who suffer from PGAD feel aroused without having any particular sexual desire, and anything could trigger them to have an orgasm. According to The Sun, it affects approximately one per cent of the population, although the symptoms aren't necessarily the same for everyone.

236 uncontrolled orgasms at the hospital

PGAD is a rare disease, which causes its victims to experience debilitating genital arousal sensations without being sexually aroused, or feeling any sexual desire whatsoever. This disease is very rare, however, a few cases have come to light in recent years. This is the case of Christine Decker, a transgender woman, who contracted this disease after suffering from a herniated disc, which is believed to have triggered her PGAD.

When she told specialists at the hospital about her debilitating disorder, they couldn't believe their eyes. And their reaction was apparently very surprising, as it took her having 236 uncontrolled orgasms in front of them at the hospital for them to understand the extent of the problem. When she was in her own home, she could have up to 100 orgasms a day. When Christine Decker began her gender transition, she said she had fewer problems with her PGAD, as taking hormones gradually reduced her symptoms. Thanks to her hormonal treatment, she now only has about eight orgasms a day.

What we know about Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder

Other testimonies also emerged in recent years. Cara Anaya-Carlis, another patient suffering from PGAD, told The Sun she felt too ashamed and did not want her son to see her like this anymore. She did not want to go to work anymore either. For her, something as simple as vibrations from a washing machine could trigger an episode of having an orgasm every 30 seconds for about four to six hours straight.

Many people who suffer from PGAD have chosen to talk about their disease, to raise awareness on a subject that is still very taboo. According to Medical News Today, patients have trouble getting on with their day-to-day lives, and many develop an anxiety disorder and suffer from panic attacks.

So, do we know what triggers this persistent genital arousal disorder? Medical News Today says it could be related to stress, epilepsy, an operation on the lower back, Tourette's syndrome or trauma to the nervous system. The Sun reports that 66.7% of women who suffered from PGAD also had Tarlov cysts, which are located in the base of the spine.

This disorder is characterized by itching, vaginal contractions, pain, spontaneous orgasms or tingling. Antidepressants and anti-seizure drugs have been used to help sufferers, and in the case of Tarlov cysts, surgery can help relieve some patients of their pain.
