Aiden Michael Mann is a veterinary assistant from Nashville. As well as his Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix named Lola, he recently decided to adopt another dog: an Australian Shepherd named Plum. But this wasn’t an easy decision for him to make and he was quite hesitant at first, as he revealed to Insider.
‘I definitely didn't know what I was getting myself into, but I did know that I loved her and wanted to give her a good life.’
Vet adopts a deaf and blind dog
But Plum is a bit different. She was born deaf and partially blind due to poor breeding. This fills Aiden’s every day with new challenges to overcome, but ones which he is happy to take on. For example, how do you call a deaf dog? To do this, Aiden developed his own, unique way of communicating and letting Plum know what he wanted from her.
'We have ‘sit’ somewhat down, which is a touch under her chin. And when I want her to follow me or go in a certain direction, I will softly guide her nose in the direction we are going or run my hand along her body in the direction I want her to go.’
From TikTok to internet fame
This touching story went viral due to a video that Aiden posted on TikTok showing how he wakes Plum up in the morning. So as not to scare her, the veterinary assistant gently blows on her face and her reaction when she realises what is happening is just too cute. But don’t take our word for it, go and see for yourself!
There is nothing more emotional than the bond between a dog and its master. And the story of this dog who waited for his missing owner for four years, which is just as cute as Aiden and Plum’s story, is just heartbreaking!
