The ground gave way under their feet
While she was gardening, the 45-year-old woman, who lives with her husband Kevin in Stoke Mandeville in Buckinghamshire, suddenly realised that the ground was giving way underneath her feet. A few minutes later, a 7-foot pit formed in the middle of the lawn.
But that wasn’t the strangest part. When they took a closer look, Emma and Kevin realised that there were stairs which led even further underground.
The mystery remains unsolved
The couple, who were not particularly keen on investigating for themselves, preferred to wait for experts to find out the origin of this pit.
'It’s getting worse every day, but we don’t want to go down there. We just want someone to come out and tell us what it is so we can sort it out,’ Emma told the Daily Mail. From 1984 when they first moved in and up until this surprising discovery, the James’ had never experienced such a baffling mishap in their garden.
