Contrary to many viewers' expectations, a show insider has revealed that Love Island series 5 will not feature a tribute to the late Mike Thalassitis, who took his own life in March, less than two years after his appearance on the show.
After the tragic death of Mike Thalassitis in March this year, the future of Love Island was thrown into question, as some suggested that mental health aftercare procedures provided by the show were not sufficient. However, ITV bosses have confirmed that the show will be returning - with extra measures put in place to protect the future Islanders' mental health in the light of their newfound fame.
Despite this, many viewers have been surprised by this week's revelation that the new series of Love Island is not set to feature a tribute to Mike. When Sophie Gradon sadly passed away during the 2018 series, Caroline Flack paid tribute to her on the spinoff show Aftersun, saying: 'She was a gorgeous person both inside and out. Everyone's thoughts here at Love Island are with Sophie's friends and family at this really terrible time. Sophie we will never forget you.'
However, it looks like the same is not planned for Mike as a show insider says that a tribute will not be aired on the ITV2 show. Take a look at the video above for more details.
