At first glance, nothing indicates that charging your phone in the car is dangerous, quite the contrary. Given that applications drain smartphone batteries at an astonishing rate, starting with GPS, having a backup charger in your car even seems like the ideal solution.

The impact of charging your phone in your car

First of all, the USB ports in a car cannot provide enough power to charge a smartphone. Plugging a phone into a low-powered USB port will be of little use since the port will not be able to provide the necessary power. So the smartphone will be charged very little, if at all... Unless you drive for hours!

Driving in an old car

This can also damage the phone's charger, but also the vehicle's battery. The older the phone, the more likely it is that the car battery will run down. However, this is usually not a problem if the vehicle is new.

If your car has been on the road for many years, it's best not to plug your smartphone into its USB ports. If your phone is losing battery too quickly, external batteries may do the trick. So, you know what you have to do!
