The last thing you'd like to see in your takeaway order is a dead animal, especially one that has four tiny feet and a long tail.

Eunice Lucero-Lee's order

Eunice Lucero-Lee and her husband, Jason Lee, had reportedly ordered a Korean soup from Gammeeok, a Korean restaurant in K-Town in New York City on Saturday 11 March.

Lucero-Lee, who took to Instagram to share her story, said that the couple had been going to the same restaurant for over a decade. However, this time around, they found a dead black rat inside one of their dishes.

She posted pictures of what she found in her soup and wrote:

That is a rat in our soup. This place remains open for operation even after we notified them. Please don't ever go there for your own safety.

Gammeeok's response

Gammeeok has also used their own platform to share their side of the story in a series of posts which included CCTV footage of their cooking process.

They stated that the allegations do not add up, and emphasized the fact that there was no way they could have missed seeing a dead animal in the food.

They said:

When we transferred the soup, we served it four times with a ladle while the staff watched it with their eyes. If there was a mouse that big, there's no way I would have missed it.

At this point, it is unclear whether the footage on their Instagram shows the process of them making that specific rat-contaminated dish.

The restaurant also alleged that the very couple who accused them of giving them the soup posted a very similar complaint on Yelp six years ago about a fly in their soup, but deleted it after their current post went viral.

The couple has revealed that they are seeking legal counsel and according to New York Post, they have filed a lawsuit against the restaurant.

Until the case is resolved, it will be hard to know what really happened but the story has internet users divided.

One user commented on Gammeeok's video:

this couple is lying. ain’t no way they didn’t feel that big a** rodent with their spoon when stirring around. they ain’t half the bowl before finding out

While another said:

It’s not easy running a Resturant, then to have 2 lazy mad people try to get rich with a free meal.

On the flip side, many users believe that the accusations could be true as restaurant has other similar negative reviews as well. One user said:

i just looked at your reviews and there’s other reviews also with pictures claiming to have found roaches in your food.

Similarly, another commented:

I would say it was a lie but after reading the reviews from months ago many people have reported getting sick from this restaurant. This is so gross…
