To this day, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is still regarded as one of our favourite childhood films. The actor who played Charlie was 13 years old when the film was shot. As you can probably imagine, he's changed a lot since then...
14 years after the release of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, the young boy who starred alongside Johnny Depp, has not completely disappeared from the TV and film scene. He continued his film career, notably with his role in Arthur and the Invisibles in 2006. 11 years after his last appearance on the big screen, Freddie Highmore managed to make his mark on America. Between 2013 and 2017, he played Norman Bates in Bates Motel. Highmore is now considered as a critically acclaimed actor after being nominated for Best Actor at the Critics Choice Awards in 2014, 2015, and 2017.
The choice to move to the American TV industry has so far, been a success. His role in medical series, The Good Doctor in which he plays an autistic doctor, earned him a Golden Globe nomination in 2018. But without doubt, the biggest change to the young actor has got to be how much he's grown up. After celebrating his 27th birthday last summer, it's almost difficult to recognise that young boy who once, had that special golden ticket.
