While the movie boasts so many legendary scenes, from the ‘third class dance’, to the ‘Titanic pose’, there is one scene that boggles the mind of all the fans. That is none other than the climactic scene wherein Jack and Rose are in the water after the ship hits the iceberg.

Rose, who is seen floating on the door, witnesses the death of her one true love. And fans have always argued about how both Jack and Rose could have fit on top of the door and that Jack died for nothing. Now, director James Cameron has come forward and addressed this accusation made by fans over all these years.

Cameron’s take on the scene

As per The Guardian, Cameron says that Jack couldn’t have survived the sinking. He allegedly commissioned a scientific study to determine the fact that Jack could have not survived on the floating door. Since Jack’s fate has been questioned time and again by fans, he just wanted to give the Titanic fans some closure.

After doing a forensic analysis with a hypothermia expert, they conducted a study with two people with a similar body mass to Jack and Rose. With sensors and scientific accessories, they conducted a variety of tests in ice-cold water. After all kinds of forensic testing, he said:

There was no way they both could have survived. Only one could survive.

Looks like there was no other option for Jack than to die for the one he loved. Thus, giving the movie a typical tragic Shakespearean ending, which made it the iconic film it is.
