Great British Bake Off: This is how judge Paul Hollywood has been described by a former winner

The winner of the 2020 Great British Bake Off, Peter Sawkins, has stated that behind Paul's 'brutal' and harsh judgment on their bakes, he is a nice person off camera. In that case, could it be that he only puts on a show for the sake of the series?

The final-year accounting student at the University of Edinburgh won the 2020 series at his second attempt to get on board. During Peter’s book signing event, fans couldn’t hold back on asking how Paul really is in real life.

According to a publication by Edinburgh News, one curious fan quizzed, 'What is Paul Hollywood really like?' To answer, the 22-year-old accomplished baker said,

He can be quite brutal with feedback, but does want us all to do well. It was really nice to get to know Paul as a person outside of the tent rather than a mythical creature judging your bakes, I mean his eyes really are that piercing blue!

What has Peter been up to?

Sawkins has so far written two books. Peter's Baking Party, his most recent book, contains a variety of delectable recipes to sweeten all seasons as well as those for allergies, particularly gluten-free alternatives. Peter hosted a book signing, baking demonstration, and questions evening last week at Augustine United Church in Edinburgh to celebrate the release of his new book.

Sawkins, the Great British Bake Off's youngest ever winner, reveals his signature baking secrets in his debut cookbook, Peter Bakes. He shares everything from beginner bakes to celebratory showstoppers in easy-to-follow recipes. Peter appears to be very interested in gluten-free baking, as his second book also includes gluten-free recipes, according to Black & White Publishing.

The second attempt

Peter, who aspired to be one of the best bakers, auditioned for the reality show when he was only 17-years-old. Unfortunately, he was rejected the first time he applied, but that didn't deter him from applying again three years later. He emphasized that the gap provided him with an opportunity to hone his skills and gain confidence.

At the ceremony, he discussed how the second time around, he was able to get through the lengthy application process because he had 'grew in confidence and skill capability.' While getting on the show meant lugging his fragile baked goods for hours on the train to be tested, however, Peter said it was:

The most amazing experience and definitely worth it.
