Cain’s health crisis and Moira’s shocking arrest

Early 2026 takes a dramatic turn for Cain after he’s wounded by a gunshot. A routine check-up reveals something more sinister : Cain may have prostate cancer. The medical news doesn’t only spark fear but also brings the Dingle family closer together, as they brace for a year-long battle. Producer Laura Shaw revealed:

"We’re at the start of a very important, emotional and long journey for the Dingles with Cain’s diagnosis. He will need every bit of support he can get – but can he allow himself to accept it?"

But that’s not all for the Dingles. Moira, always by Cain’s side, finds herself arrested for human trafficking after being framed by Celia. This couldn’t have happened at a worse time, as Cain is now more vulnerable than ever, and their marriage is put to the ultimate test. If Moira ends up in prison, who will be left to hold things together ?

Death, deception and family secrets rock the village

If you thought one crisis was enough, think again. The mysterious death of Ray triggers a full-blown police investigation, with villagers like Laurel, Rhona and Marlon quickly becoming prime suspects. Each episode during this special storyline week zooms in on their individual perspectives, while characters like April, Dylan, Arthur, Ross and Paddy also linger under suspicion. Who really killed Ray ? The answer will be unveiled through a week of tense flashbacks, promising revelations before January is up.

Paddy’s world crumbles in the aftermath. Upon learning that his father, Bear, was exploited as forced labour by Ray and Celia, and then ultimately killed by Celia, Paddy spirals into despair. His psychological struggles resurface. A source teases:

"Paddy’s search for Bear is heartbreaking. He’s so desperate for answers, and what he uncovers brings his mental health to a breaking point."

Secrets keep rolling in : Charity is hiding an unexpected pregnancy. While Ross is the real father, Mackenzie believes he’s the dad. The lie can only hold until the spring, when Charity’s baby arrives and the shocking truth finally comes out.

In and out departures and the return to end all returns

Emmerdale fans will see some faces leaving, but also an explosive homecoming. Victoria, played by Isabel Hodgins, is bowing out – the actress’s real-life pregnancy provides an organic exit from the show. Victoria’s storyline, involving the fatal self-defence against her brother John, sees her heading for prison despite brother Robert’s unwavering support. It’s an emotional farewell, but is it really the end for her ?

Meanwhile, the soap world was left gobsmacked by the news that Graham Foster, thought to have died in 2020, will be making a permanent return. The shockwaves of Graham’s reappearance will hit Kim, Joe and Rhona the hardest. Laura Shaw teases:

"Graham’s return is set to cause chaos for everyone who thought he was gone for good. His relationships with Kim, Joe and Rhona are more complicated than ever."

How will Emmerdale’s villagers cope as secrets unravel

The coming year is shaping up to be one of the soap’s most dramatic, with each revelation promising to upend relationships and power dynamics. The Dingle family faces one of its biggest trials with Cain’s illness, Moira’s possible imprisonment, and Charity’s lies. The Ray murder plot and the hunt for the killer will surely test loyalties across the village. Paddy’s mental health struggles and Bear’s death look set to stir heartfelt conversations. And of course, Graham’s unlikely return is bound to leave every fan on tenterhooks. Can anyone in Emmerdale find lasting happiness this year ?
