Prince Felix and Princess Claire welcome their third child

Prince Felix and Princess Claire announced the couple's third pregnancy in July 2023, sharing a sweet family snap. Just a week into 2024, The Grand Ducal Court confirmed the arrival of a new baby boy named Balthasar Felix Karl.

According to People Magazine, the name Balthasar has Greek origins and has a royal meaning: ‘God protects the king.’ In an announcement posted on Monday, the royal court said:

It is with great joy that we announce the birth of our son. The Prince was born on 7th January 2024 at the Maternité Grande-Duchesse Charlotte.
The newborn Prince will be named Balthasar Felix Karl. He weighs 3,220 kg and measures 50 cm.

The court added:

Prince Balthasar and Princess Claire are in perfect health.

The message was signed by the royal couple and their two kids.

A look into the Royal Family of Luxembourg

Prince Balthasar is the seventh grandchild of Grand Duke Henri and Duchess Maria Teresa. He isn’t the only royal addition to the Luxembourg family. Last month, the royal family announced that Princess Alexandra and her husband, Nicolas Bagory, are expecting their first child this spring.

The princess wed French businessman Nicolas in a civil ceremony at Luxembourg Town Hall in April. The royal baby will be eighth in line to the Luxembourg throne, regardless of gender, but will have no title due to this usually being inherited from the father.

Since 2011, Luxembourg's line of succession has been on Cognatic (Absolute) Primogeniture, reported Unofficial Royalty. Meaning, the revised rule allowed women in the line of succession - which added Princess Alexandra along with her future children. Grand Duke Henri is the current sovereign of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The next in line of succession would be HRH Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume.
